The Henry A. Wallace Assistantship for Underrepresented Students

Students of African-American, Latino/a-American, and Native-American origins have historically been underrepresented in graduate-level studies in agriculture.  As a leading world center of agricultural research and the home of the first sustainable agriculture graduate program in the US, Iowa State University recognizes the vital role that underrepresented students will play in developing agriculture and sustainability studies in the 21st century.
Sustainable agriculture, by its definition, must be founded upon not only sound science but also social justice.  To be truly sustainable, agricultural practices must support the viability of rural communities, the fair treatment of farm workers as well as consumers, and the enrichment and diversity of society as a whole.

To these ends, the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture (GPSA), the Henry A. Wallace Endowed Chair for Sustainable Agriculture, and the Iowa State University Graduate College have collaborated to create the Henry A. Wallace Assistantship for Underrepresented Students.
