Thanks for visiting the Graduate Program in Sustainable Agriculture (GPSA) at Iowa State University!

Building on a solid foundation of agricultural science, the GPSA provides students the opportunity to cross traditional disciplinary boundaries in pursuit of the MS and PhD degrees in sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Lee Burras in the field with the Fall 2005 SusAg 509 class. The GPSA emphasizes experiential learning through a unique set of interdisciplinary courses.

Our SUSAG courses are delivered by teams of instructors, each expert in their discipline & focused on helping students understand the funda- mental components of sustainable systems.
A sustainable agriculture should strive to preserve and enhance environmental quality and to apply natural biological cycles and controls to production methods.
It should offer alternatives that not only support the economic viability of farmers but also provide consumers equitable access to food.   A sustainable agriculture should aid in enhancing the quality of life in local, regional, and global communities and reflect the natural and social diversity upon which it depends.
